Lorena City Council agendas include budget, tax rate, water moratorium
The Lorena City Council and Planning and Zoning Commission held meetings this month with agendas covering the proposed 2026-27 budget, a property tax rate, a water moratorium, and zoning ordinance amendments. Minutes have not yet been published, so no decisions are confirmed.
Budget and tax rate
On Aug. 11, the City Council was scheduled to discuss the proposed 2026-2027 fiscal year budget and the 2027 proposed property tax rate. The agenda also included possible action on setting dates for public hearings and adoption of the budget and tax rate. The meeting allowed public comments, with a 30-minute total limit and 3 minutes per speaker.
Water moratorium and other council items
On Aug. 17, the council had several resolutions and ordinances on its agenda. These included:
- Resolution 2026-0817-01: declining consent to agricultural development district formation
- Resolution 2026-0817-02: new rate tariffs for ATMOS Energy
- An updated application fee schedule
- Ordinance 2026-0817-01: renewing the current water moratorium
The council also was set to consider authorizing the City Manager and Chief of Police as negotiating agents for School Resource Officer interlocal agreements with the school district, and to review the proposed FY 2026-2027 EDC budget.
Zoning ordinance amendments
The Planning and Zoning Commission met Aug. 10 to continue discussion of potential amendments to the Lorena Zoning Ordinance. The commission also considered approval of its July 13, 2026 minutes and a public hearing notice for the meeting.
