Cayuga County committees set to weigh grants, appointments, and contracts

No decisions were made at Cayuga County meetings this week — all sessions were agenda-only, with minutes not yet published. But the agendas contain several significant items that will come up for votes in the coming weeks, including a $2.5 million grant request for a playground, multiple state and federal grant acceptances, and the appointment of a new executive director for the county's public utility agency.

Grants and funding

Several committees are set to vote on accepting grant money. The Health & Human Services Committee will consider accepting $76,937 for a public health preparedness contract, $200,000 for a septic replacement grant, and $110,709 in state funding for the Children's Single Point of Access (C-SPOA) mental health program. The Judicial & Public Safety Committee will consider accepting $168,000 for radio equipment under the SICG 2024 grant and $111,237.66 for a victim witness program coordinator under an OVS grant.

The Planning & Public Works Committee reviewed a request for a $2.5 million NY PLAYS grant for a Destination Playground, with a $500,000 match commitment. That request has not yet been voted on. The committee also noted that a County Infrastructure Grant application for Weedsport is awaiting an award announcement.

The Government Operations Committee will vote on a resolution to accept $2,000 in America 250 funding for the Historian's Office and amend the 2026 budget.

Personnel and appointments

The Cayuga County Public Utility Service Agency (CCPUSA) held two meetings this week, both with the same agenda: appoint a vice chair and consider appointing Justin King as Executive Director. No decision has been published yet.

The Judicial & Public Safety Committee will vote on creating and filling a part-time Emergency Services Dispatcher position for 911, and the Health & Human Services Committee will create a Coding and Billing Specialist position at the Mental Health Department. Other items

The Government Operations Committee received reports that the County Clerk remitted $114,408.02 to the Treasurer for July 2026, and that IT staff completed AI training (89% of staff) and made progress on the E911 backup site and cybersecurity plan. Veterans Services coordinated 65 appointments at the Syracuse VAMC and distributed free bus passes.

The Planning & Public Works Committee noted that NYSERDA EV charging stations are now installed and operational at Emerson Park, and that the countywide housing study is in progress.
