Cary Village Board to consider $1.74M warrant, snowplow purchase; several August meetings canceled

The Cary Village Board is scheduled to consider a $1.74 million warrant and other purchases at its Aug. 18 meeting, while two other village boards canceled their August meetings.

Village Board

The board's consent agenda includes:

• A warrant totaling $1,737,090.13 for payroll and vendor checks.
• Purchase of snowplow equipment from Henderson Products for up to $152,020.62.
• A contract with Geske and Sons for emergency utility dig patching, with a total budget of $52,550.69.
• Declaring certain equipment as surplus property.
• Swearing in Ted Lawler to the Cary Police Department.

The board will also recognize employee anniversaries and hold an executive session on litigation and real estate.

Cancellations

Three meetings were canceled in August:

• The Board of Zoning, Planning and Appeals meeting scheduled for Aug. 13 was canceled. The notice was signed by James Graziano, ZPA Interim Chairman, and Brian Simmons, Community Development Director. No business items were listed.
• The Police Commission meeting scheduled for Aug. 17 was canceled. The next meeting is set for Sept. 21.
• The Committee of the Whole meeting scheduled for Aug. 18 was canceled. It was originally to be held at the Cary Municipal Center, 755 Georgetown Drive.

No upcoming meetings are listed for the next 14 days. The next Police Commission meeting is scheduled for Sept. 21.

Cary Village Board to weigh $360K in water infrastructure contracts

Cary's Village Board met Aug. 4 with a consent agenda that included two water infrastructure contracts totaling $360,553, along with other administrative items. No minutes have been published yet, so no final decisions are confirmed. The board also heard presentations on e-bike regulations and a new police initiative.

Village Board of Trustees

The consent agenda included a design engineering services agreement with Engineering Enterprises, Inc. for the 2027 Water Main Replacement Program at $91,665, against a total project budget of $100,820.50. A separate contract award to Dahme Mechanical Industries covers Well No. 12 Booster Pump Assembly Replacements at $268,888, with a project budget of $295,776.80.

Also on the agenda were a resolution adopting the 2026 Village of Cary Official Zoning Map, a contract for 2026 Wayfinding Signage Fabrication and Installation to Michael's Signs, Inc. at $51,970 (budget $57,167), and an employee leasing agreement with GovTempsUSA. The meeting included presentations on e-bike regulations, a new "Cary Cares" police initiative, and a proclamation for School's Open Safety Week.

Committee of the Whole

The Committee of the Whole met Aug. 4 for discussion only. Staff presented a proposal for regulating murals on private property, following prior discussions in September 2025 and May 2026. A second proposal would create a new Arts & Events Commission for the village. No votes were expected.

Police Commission

The Police Commission held a special meeting Aug. 3. Its agenda included approving a probationary police officer appointment, an update on the hiring process for a vacancy, discussion of opening an alternative eligibility application process, and a vote to cancel the regular Aug. 17 meeting. Minutes have not been published, so outcomes are not yet known.

Coming up

Two upcoming meetings have been canceled. The Board of Zoning, Planning and Appeals meeting scheduled for Aug. 13 at 6 p.m. at the Cary Municipal Center is canceled, per a notice signed by ZPA Interim Chairman James Graziano and Community Development Director Brian Simmons. The Police Commission meeting set for Aug. 17 is also canceled; the next meeting is Sept. 21.
