Brecksville boards and council to weigh ARPA funds, zoning variances, police officer list

City Council and committees

The board also approved minutes from its July 13 meeting and received reports from council and the mayor.

Civil Service Commission

The Civil Service Commission met Aug. 18 to consider decertifying the current Police Officer Candidate list because of a lack of qualified candidates. The commission also discussed scheduling a new competitive exam for a fresh eligibility list and timelines for 2027 promotional exams. It approved minutes from Aug. 28, 2025.

Planning Commission

The Planning Commission held a public hearing Aug. 20 on a revised Planned Development Area rear yard setback of 27.2 feet for properties at 8356 and 8360 Lavender Lane (PPN 60321141 and 60321142). The commission also reviewed sign permits for Checkpoint Surgical at 6650 W. Snowville Rd. Unit R and Compass South Office Building at 8180 Brecksville Rd., and approved minutes from its Aug. 6 meeting. A work session covered the same Lavender Lane setback.

Brecksville agendas include $60,925 in project changes, six zoning appeals

Brecksville city officials will consider more than $60,000 in project changes and new agreements this week, including replacing Christmas decorations and additional asbestos removal at the Central School demolition site. The items are on agendas for meetings held Aug. 4 and Aug. 6; minutes have not yet been published, so no decisions are confirmed. Brecksville Planning Commission approves Valor Acres storefronts; Council set to weigh storm sewer contract

The Brecksville Planning Commission granted final approval to ground-floor tenant storefronts at 4550 Hruby Street in the Valor Acres Business Planned Development Area on July 9, clearing the way for retail build-out in the city's largest ongoing development.

Planning Commission — July 9

The commission voted 6-0 on several items, including final approval of the Valor Acres Building G ground-floor tenant storefronts at 4550 Hruby Street. Commissioners also approved a temporary real-estate sign for VA Residential Phase 2 and an illuminated wall sign for Knuth's Boutique, both on 6-0 votes.

Minutes from the June 4, 2026 regular meeting and work session were each approved 6-0. The commission took no action on revised monument signs for the Compass South Office Building, recorded as a 6-0 vote. Chairman Lahrmer recused himself from discussion of the Cleveland Clinic Foundation Medical Office Building application.
