Bloomfield boards weigh zoning variances, vaccine policy; no decisions yet published
Bloomfield's Environmental Commission, Zoning Board, and Board of Health all met in the past week, but none of the minutes have been published, so no official decisions are available. The most consequential action on the horizon is the Board of Health's vote on a new vaccine needle-use policy, rescheduled for August 26.
Environmental Commission
The commission met remotely on August 19. The agenda included a review of example bylaws, subcommittee reports on the Green Team, Sustainable Landscape, and Repair Cafe programs, and an update on the PSEG Residential Outreach Energy Efficiency program. The commission also reviewed and approved minutes from a previous meeting.
Zoning Board
The Zoning Board held a remote meeting on August 20 to hear four variance requests:
- **118-128 Liberty Street** – A use variance for a five-unit townhouse development on a vacant R-2A lot, which currently permits two-family homes.
- **190 Broughton Avenue** – A bulk variance and D4 FAR variance to add a second floor over the rear section of a single-family dwelling.
- **54 Broughton Avenue** – A D1 use variance and design waiver to convert ground-floor commercial space to residential, demolish a garage, and build a four-car garage.
- **224 Broughton Avenue** – A bulk and D1 use variance to convert vacant ground-floor commercial space to a residential apartment.
The board also reviewed minutes from its previous meeting. No resolutions or old business were listed.
Board of Health
The Board of Health was originally scheduled to meet on August 20, but that meeting was rescheduled to August 26. The agenda includes two resolutions: Resolution #17-2026, adopting a Vaccine Preparation and Needle Use Policy, and Resolution #18-2026, authorizing a closed session to discuss a shared service agreement and staffing matters.
