Benton committees meet to consider funding, zoning, and property cleanups; no decisions yet
Benton city committees met Aug. 11 to review a range of items, including funding for a turf project, a grant for the Shenandoah Roundabout, a rezoning request, and property cleanups. However, all five meetings were agenda-only, and minutes have not yet been published, so no final decisions or votes are available.
Finance Committee
The Finance Committee reviewed Benton Utilities' June 2026 financials and discussed bank account allocations. The agenda also included funding for a turf project, acceptance of a grant for the Shenandoah Roundabout, and a franchise bond payment. No dollar amounts were listed in the agenda.
Streets and Drainage Committee
The Streets and Drainage Committee received updates on the McClelland project and other ongoing projects. The agenda included routine items such as call to order, approval of minutes, and a FOIA compliance statement.
Parks Committee
The Parks Committee discussed turf management options. The agenda listed a turf discussion but no specific proposals or contracts.
Commissions Committee
The Commissions Committee received information from the Planning and Zoning Commission, including a proposed ordinance for a conditional use permit for a youth home at 2010 Jackman St. That ordinance would repeal Ordinance 02 of 2026. The committee also reviewed a proposed ordinance to rezone property at 507 Hwy 5 N from R2 to C3. This was an informational meeting; no final decisions were made.
Community Services Committee
The Community Services Committee considered property remediation clean-up orders for six properties: 18632 I-30, 609 Military Rd, 801 Brookview Dr, 2713 Janet Dr, 1222 Cherry St, and 3002 Sue St. It also reviewed a proposed ordinance revising certain fees for the Community Development Department. The committee was scheduled to approve minutes from July 14, 2026, and received the DRC Monthly Report for July for review.
All meetings were listed on the city's meeting calendar, and none had published minutes as of this writing. The items above are from the agendas and have not been formally decided.
