Ector County ISD board to weigh bond purchases, grievance, policy updates
The Ector County ISD Board of Trustees held three meetings over the past two weeks, covering a staff grievance, policy and medical plan updates, and a slate of bond-funded construction items. As of this writing, minutes have not been published for any of the meetings, so the items below are what the board was scheduled to consider, not actions it has taken.
Special meeting: grievance hearing (Aug. 10)
The board convened for a Level III grievance hearing involving employee Leticia Covarrubias. The agenda included a possible move into closed session to discuss personnel matters (under Section 551.074 of the Texas Government Code) and to consult with the attorney (Section 551.071), followed by possible action on the grievance. No outcome has been reported.
Board workshop: policy, medical plan, STAAR results (Aug. 11)
The workshop agenda included discussion of the TASB Board Policy Update 127, a presentation on the 2026 ECISD Medical Plan Committee update, a strategic plan update on the MTSS pilot and implementation, and a review of 2025-2026 STAAR results. The board also had the option to enter closed session for personnel matters and attorney consultation.
Regular meeting: bond purchases, budget, personnel (Aug. 18)
The regular meeting agenda listed several items, including:
- Bond 2023 purchases over $100,000
- An amendment to the Transportation Facility Project construction and renovation
- A professional services agreement with PBK for the ATLAS CTE Center
- 2026-2027 Budget Amendment #1
- Retroactive hiring of principals for Burnet Elementary and Bonham Middle School
The agenda also included potential closed-session deliberations regarding school principal hires.
