TWU Board weighs FY2027 budget, engineering degree, Dallas college
Texas Woman's University's Board of Regents and its committees met last week to consider a range of items, including the fiscal year 2027 budget, a new mechanical engineering degree, and a new college at TWU Dallas. No final decisions have been reported, as minutes from the meetings have not yet been published.
Budget and finance
The Finance and Audit Committee met Aug. 13 and considered recommending approval of the Fiscal Year 2027 budgets, the FY2027 audit plan, and the naming of a new athletic complex. The committee also reviewed items related to delegation of authority under Texas Education Code Chapter 51B and acceptance of grants. The full board, meeting Aug. 14, had these same items on its consent agenda, along with compensation adjustments for the chancellor and president.
Academic programs
The Academic Affairs Committee, also meeting Aug. 13, considered recommending approval of a new Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering degree. It also reviewed recommendations from the General Education Review Committee and a proposal to establish a new college based on the Come to Believe Model at TWU Dallas. The committee heard a faculty highlight presentation from the School of the Sciences – Biology, College of Arts and Sciences – Denton Campus, and discussed personnel matters, including emeritus and emerita faculty appointments.
Full board actions
The full board met Aug. 14 and had on its agenda the same budget, engineering degree, and Dallas college items, along with the athletic complex naming. It also received reports on athletics, legislative affairs, and campus operations before recessing into closed session for legal and personnel matters, including the chancellor's evaluation and compensation.
Special called meeting
On Aug. 19, the board held a special called meeting to discuss personnel matters in closed session under Texas Government Code Sec. 551.074. The agenda included recommending approval of executive management employee appointments. The board reconvened in open session to take possible action on those matters, but no decisions have been reported.
Status of decisions
All four meetings are listed as agenda only, with minutes not yet published. As a result, none of the items discussed have been formally approved or rejected in the public record. The board's next steps will be known when minutes are released.
