Argyle Council to weigh tax rate, street contract, development moratorium

The Argyle Town Council is set to take up several consequential items in the coming weeks, including a proposed property tax rate, a $656,128.73 street maintenance contract, and a development moratorium. All items are on agendas; no votes have been taken yet.

Tax rate and budget

At its Aug. 11 meeting, the council will vote on a resolution to set the maximum proposed property tax rate at $0.343 per $100 of assessed valuation. The resolution also schedules public hearings on the tax rate and the FY2025-2026 budget. Under the proposed budget, the town portion of the tax bill for an average homestead valued at $569,250 would rise from $1,953.16 to $2,036.61.

Development moratorium

The council will hold a first reading of Ordinance 2026-29, which would impose a moratorium on commercial and residential development applications in an area bounded by I-35W, FM 407, and US Hwy 377.

Street and trail contracts

At its Aug. 17 meeting, the Council will consider awarding Bid No. 2026-007 for 2026 Street Maintenance to Quick Set Construction for $656,128.73. It will also consider awarding Bid No. 2026-011 for Argyle Nature Trail Improvements to North Rock Construction for $339,826.77. The consent agenda includes a $58,000 contract for lift station maintenance, a $12,500 agreement for investment advisory services, and a $48,000 marketing agreement.

Public hearings and grants

The Council will hold public hearings on a specific use permit for a lighted sports court at Argyle Middle School (750 FM 407 West) and for a large-scale development at Well Community Church (600 FM 407 W). It will also consider an economic assistance grant of up to $35,000 for TBK The Bees Knees.

Parks Board

The Parks Board met Aug. 12 to hear presentations on Cross Timbers Forest (by Texas Master Naturalist Diane Wetherbee) and Unity Park (by Argyle Youth Sports Association). Argyle P&Z Hears Proposal for Lighted Sports Court at Middle School

The Argyle Planning and Zoning Commission on July 1 held a public hearing on a proposal to install a lighted sports court at Argyle Middle School, along with several land-use amendments and new development standards. The meeting was held as an agenda-only session; minutes have not yet been published, so no final votes or recommendations are available at this time.

Public Hearing on Lighted Sports Court

The commission heard testimony on a Specific Use Permit (SUP-25-003) for a lighted sports court at 750 FM 407 West, the site of Argyle Middle School. The proposal calls for four 90-foot poles to illuminate a football field and track, and 36 24-foot poles for tennis courts. The permit is being sought by the Argyle Independent School District.
