Rachel gave us her vision of a local communications network, spearheaded by a cadre of Block Captains. CERT's role would be to recruit and keep a list of the captains. The captains would maintain a list of neighborhood participants. We'd kick things off with a block party. There would be an annual 'training session' with the captains. Rachel stressed that this is an information sharing endeavor only; it is not a 'neighborhood watch' and there is no policing activity. It is just a means of communicating among neighbors, creating a community and building resiliency. 2. We reviewed the trainings sponsored by CERT from February thru May: A. The many uses of Duct Tape in first aid and emergency situations. B. Fall Prevention, conducted by Mt. Rainier Cert. C. A presence (Melissa) at the University Park 5K run. D. BioTerrorism awareness, conducted by Arlene Crowe. E. Stroke Smart awareness, a valuable training conducted by Margaret Probst, with too few attendees. Planning Meeting page 2.
