Members present: Kevin Christopherson, Jenifer Hopkins, Mary Schmidt, Thea True-Wells, Kyla Alvey, Alex Petrino, Dana Howie, Michael Stedillie, John Bolender, Angela Hensley
Trustee Christopherson introduces a resolution presented by Trustee Schmidt and a proclamation presented by Trustee Alvey to celebrate the 250th anniversary of America’s Independence.
Motion by Trustee Hopkins to work with the resolution and not the proclamation.
Seconded by Trustee Alvey
Discussion
Trustee Schmidt identifies there is a difference between a resolution and a proclamation. Identifies that she believes what Trustees move forward with should be titled as a resolution.
Trustee Petrino asks what the proper word choice would be.
NCSD Legal Counsel Zara Mason identifies that if it is a public statement, then it is a proclamation. A resolution is a document being adopted. Identifies that this would be considered a resolution.
Trustee Alvey shares that she created her edited version to cut out additional language that she did not believe was necessary.
Trustee Schmidt highlights her statements that “the district affirms its commitment” and “the district encourages.” Shares she does not want to remove language that comes straight from the Declaration of Independence.
