Police & Fire Commission

The South Milwaukee Board of Police and Fire Commissioners will meet on February 11, 2025. The agenda includes a discussion on establishing a police officer eligibility list and a notification of a side letter agreement creating a Mobile Integrated Health (MIH) Lieutenant position. The commission may vote to promote Firefighter/Paramedic M. Landgraf to that position.

Common Council

The Common Council approved a side letter agreement with the firefighters union to establish a mobile integrated health unit, and authorized a $4,000 contract with GRAEF for a site concept plan for the Tri City National Bank Plaza art installation. A motion to study audio/video recordings of meetings failed on a 3-4 vote. The council also voted to name the City Hall driveway after former Mayor Chester W. Grobschmidt.

Plan Commission

The Plan Commission will discuss and possibly approve a Bucyrus Facade Grant up to $16,035 for exterior improvements at 920 Monroe Avenue (BellaRose banquet hall). They will also consider recommending Graef consulting for a downtown plaza design concept and continue discussions on the zoning chapter draft update. An annual economic development report will be presented.

The South Milwaukee Plan Commission unanimously deferred a decision on a $16,035 façade grant for BellaRose banquet hall at 920 Monroe Avenue, asking for a revised design. It approved moving forward with Phase 1 of a concept design by Graef for the Tri City National Bank downtown plaza at 10th and Milwaukee Avenue, in a 4-2 vote. The commission also discussed a draft zoning chapter update, including removing parking minimums, and tabled the Economic Development Staff Annual Report.

Common Council

The Common Council will discuss awarding two lead service line replacement projects to Five Star Energy Services. The body will also consider police equipment purchases and an agreement to raze a property on Monroe Avenue.

The Common Council approved several items, including awarding the Phase 4 lead service line replacement project to Miller Pipeline for up to $1,511,458, funded by a Wisconsin DNR loan. They also adopted resolutions to reprogram capital funds, add erosion control permit fees, support bus route expansion, post meeting audio recordings online, and rename the City Hall driveway 'Mayor Chet's Circle.' All votes were unanimous except for the audio recording resolution, which passed 5-1.

Library Board

The South Milwaukee Public Library Board of Trustees will meet to discuss and act on several items, including a presentation from the Wisconsin Policy Forum, approval of financial statements for November and December 2024, and potential updates to the study room and meeting room policies. The board will also set the May 2025 meeting date and receive various committee and director reports.

Celebrations Committee

The South Milwaukee Celebrations Committee will meet to review the Christmas at the Commons event held on December 7, 2024, and consider motions for 2025 yearly events. The committee will also approve minutes from November 18, 2024, and receive a financial report. This is a routine planning meeting for community celebrations.

Water & Wastewater Commission

The Water & Wastewater Commission will discuss and potentially award two contracts totaling $3,528,067 for Phase 2 and Phase 3 of the 2025 Lead Service Line Replacement project to Five Star Energy Services. The commission will also consider one-time bill adjustment requests from four properties, a change to standard letter-size bills, and routine approvals of adjustments and vouchers.

Claims Committee

The Claims Committee will consider approving minutes from June 2024 and then move into closed session under Wisconsin law to discuss settlement negotiations for claims by Alexander Ford and Luis Zamora-Martinez, as well as any other recent claims. The committee will also discuss outstanding open claims and a claims status report. After closed session, the committee may take action on those items.
