Commission considers rule changes for field inspections and noxious weed lists
The Agricultural Chemistry and Seed Commission will discuss program updates for seed, industrial hemp, agricultural chemistry, and feed. The body is reviewing proposed rule changes regarding field sampling and definitions of raw materials.
- Proposed rule change to LAC 7:XIII.763.C to remove field sampling for yellow leaf virus
- Request to add Waterhemp and Italian Ryegrass to the Louisiana Noxious Weed list
- Petition to amend LAC 7:XVII.101 to add a definition for "raw"
- Certified to Certified requests for Fitzgerald and Mermentau rice varieties

✓ Decided: Commission approves three rice/sugarcane seed certification changes
The commission approved three seed-related actions: allowing Crowley Grain Drier to produce Certified-to-Certified Fitzgerald rice for 2026, allowing Rauser Farms to produce Certified-to-Certified Mermentau rice for 2026, and amending sugarcane certification standards to remove the Yellow Leaf Virus field sampling requirement. It also rejected a petition to amend commercial feed rules regarding the definition of 'raw.' All motions passed unanimously.
- Approved Crowley Grain Drier's request to produce Certified-to-Certified Fitzgerald rice for crop year 2026.
- Approved Rauser Farms' request to produce Certified-to-Certified Mermentau rice for crop year 2026.

The meeting was called to order at 9:32 a.m. by Mr. Todd Parker, Confidential Assistant to Commissioner Mike Strain, DVM.
