Town Council Meeting - Regular Session

The Kearny Town Council will ratify payments for consulting and utility services and discuss remodeling the Kelly Haddad Administration Building as part of a consolidation project. The body will also consider a resolution designating a Chief Fiscal Officer and discuss employee benefits and building permit exemptions.

Town Council Meeting - Special Session

The Town Council held a special session to discuss and possibly approve an amicus brief regarding three Ninth Circuit of Appeals cases. These cases involve the Apache Stronghold, the Arizona Mining Reform Coalition, and the San Carlos Apache Tribe against the U.S. Forest Service and Resolution Copper Mining.

The Kearny Town Council held a special session on October 2, 2025, with six members present and two absent. The only substantive action was a unanimous vote to enter executive session to discuss legal advice and pending litigation, including the Apache Stronghold and related cases. No decisions were made in open session, and the meeting adjourned shortly after returning.

Town Council Meeting - Special Session

The Kearny Town Council will hold a special session to decide on routine payments, job descriptions, and grant applications. Members will also discuss bench purchases, a magistrate court intergovernmental agreement, and a remodel RFP for the administration building.

Town Council Meeting - Regular Session

The Kearny Town Council will hold a public hearing to discuss and possibly select one project from a proposed list for Fiscal Year 2025 Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Regional Account Funds. The council will also consider approval of several state grant-funded building plans, including consolidating town offices, remodeling a police facility, and converting an old town hall into an amphitheater.

The Kearny Town Council approved the use of FY2025 CDBG Regional Account funds for a solar installation at the wastewater treatment plant, and approved three plans funded by state grants from Senator Wendy Rogers: the Building Consolidation Plan ($135,000), the Multi-Use Facility Plan ($50,000), and the Town Hall Building Mitigation Plan ($60,000). All motions passed with majority votes, with Councilmember Jackels voting against the consolidation and multi-use facility plans.

Town Council Meeting - Special Session

The Town Council will discuss and possibly approve Ordinance No. 25-229 to set the primary property tax rate for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2026. The council is considering two different options for the tax increase.

At a special session on August 14, 2025, the Kearny Town Council approved Ordinance No. 25-229, setting the primary property tax rate for fiscal year 2025-2026 at $2.5356 per $100 of assessed value. The vote was 3-1, with Councilmember Jackels voting no. The meeting adjourned at 6:37 pm.
